Marvel Television's "Wonder Man" will return for a second season on Disney+, the streaming service announced Monday. The renewal comes roughly two months after the series premiered with eight episodes on January 27, marking one of the few live-action Marvel Cinematic Universe series to secure a second season order.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley will reprise their roles as aspiring actor Simon Williams and veteran performer Trevor Slattery, respectively. The series was created by Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest, with Guest returning as showrunner and executive producer while Cretton continues as director and executive producer.
The first season follows Williams, a struggling Hollywood actor who meets Slattery during a chance encounter. Together, they pursue life-changing roles in a remake of the superhero film "Wonder Man" directed by the legendary Von Kovak, played by Zlatko Burić. The show offers viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the entertainment industry through the lens of two actors at opposite ends of their careers.
The series debuted to strong critical acclaim, earning a 91% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Most MCU series on the platform have been designed as limited series, including "WandaVision," "Hawkeye," "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier," and "Moon Knight." Only "Loki," starring Tom Hiddleston, previously ran for two seasons among the original Disney+ Marvel productions.
